This was a hard-fought game. Pike Central came out with a score from Kelby Leighty, but it came to an abrupt halt when Washington put on the defense, causing some turnovers and quick scores. Anna Whitehead was fouled and made 1 free-throw. At the end of the first quarter, Chargers were down 3-8.

The Chargers showed improvement in their defense keeping the Hatchets to only 6 points in the 2nd quarter. The Lady Chargers went on and scored a free-throw by Kelby Leighty, and a half-court buzzer-beater by Wren Kabrick, ending the half down 7-14.

The third quarter went back-and-forth offensively for both the Chargers and Hatchets. Brailey Mills scored 2, Anna Whitehead scored 4, and Kelby Leighty scored 2. Unfortunately, the Hatchets scored one better, ending the quarter 15-23.

The final quarter proved to be too much for the Chargers. The Hatchets came out on fire, scoring 15 points. The Chargers were only able to get a basket from Brailey Mills and Shelby Meadows. The game ended with a score of 19-38.

“I felt like we had a great first half. Unfortunately, our defense let up tremendously in the second half, allowing the Hatchets many opportunities to drive and score. We also weren’t communicating as well as we had in the first half, causing wide-open scoring opportunities for the Hatchets. The girls fought hard the whole game. We will take this loss, learn from it, and come back Thursday a better team.” – Coach Smith
